Implementing the first Matter customer application

EKTOS has recently been tasked with implementing the first Matter customer application. The goal was to connect an innovative HVAC system from an international vendor to a Matter network, allowing users of Home Assistant infrastructure to control the ventilation system and automate scenes based on it.
To achieve this, EKTOS’ development team opted for the ESP32-Cx series of SoMs, which were already a preferred design choice and utilized WiFi as the connectivity transport. By leveraging the Matter protocol as a royalty-free connectivity option, the customer was able to minimize product CAPEX while still ensuring modern and rapidly developing connectivity. This approach only required paying a certification fee, making it a cost-effective solution.
